AMONG US: CHRIST IS PRESENT
Denise Sprimont, our Camp Director, chose the theme. Here's what she wrote about it:
"Like any other cool camp, we have a theme! Our theme is centered on what is true, beautiful and good: Jesus (with a nod to everyone's favorite game, Among Us). Our theme is (drumroll please!): “Christ is Among Us” Charles Spurgeon (one of my favorite theologians to quote in Apologetics!) wrote an excellent sermon on this very topic, which I will link here. In it, he says this: "'How can we behold his glory?' Why, faith sees it. Faith looks back to the man who lived and died for us, and sees glory in his shame, honour in his disgrace, riches in his poverty, might in his weakness, triumph in his conflict, and immortality in his death. Nay, Faith is sometimes assisted by Experience; and Experience sees his glory: it sees the glory of his grace in rolling away all our sins; the preciousness of his blood in giving us reconciliation with the Father; the power of the Spirit in subduing the will; the love of his heart in constantly remembering us upon the throne; and the power of his plea in its perpetual prevalence with God. Experience shows us the glory of Christ in the deep waters, while he puts his arm beneath us and says, “Fear not, thou shalt not be drowned.” It shows us the glory of Christ in the blazing furnace while the Son of Man treads the glowing coals with his afflicted Israel. Experience shows us the glory of Christ in all the attacks of Satan. While he is our shield he wards off every poisoned arrow; shows us the glory of Christ in helping us to live and enabling us to die, and by-and-bye it shall show us the glory of Christ in enabling us to rise and take possession of the crown which he hath purchased for his children."
This sermon is my prayer for each member of camp (of Stoa, and of the church!). Christ is among us. He is not far from us, but instead pursues us in holy righteousness and love. Our camp Bible Verse, John 1:14-18 says this succinctly "The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. From His fullness we have all received grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is at the Father’s side, has made Him known.” During camp, we will focus on how God has revealed himself to us in grace, in truth, and through His word.
Conveniently, Among Us is also the name of a fun game. We are excited about all the Among Us details that will be woven, Mars Hill style, throughout the camp."
